PARENTS AND KIDS DAY AT GRACIE BARRA VENTURA

SATURDAY, AUGUST 30th 2008  8:30am to 10:00am

at Gracie Barra Ventura Brazilian Jiu-jitsu

Parents and Kids day is a great chance for everyone to

get together and have a good time training together with

kids, adults, family members, friends, etc. We’ll meet at the

academy at 8:30am and start class at 9:00am. After class around

9:30am we’ll have a little snack together to talk and hang out and

introduce new people to our school. Parents, bring your kids! Kids

bring your parents! And students, bring your friends! This event is for everyone

to have fun and train together!

Rick Cadena received his blue belt from Professor Fabio Leopoldo on Tuesday August 12th here at Gracie Barra Ventura. He’s the first blue belt to be promoted at our new school here in Ventura. We’re very proud of his progress here. Rick has a long history of training even before discovering us here at Gracie Barra Ventura. He was training off and on for the last 5 years down in L.A. at Rickson Gracie’s Academy. We’re glad to have Rick here and we’re really happy to have him as the first blue belt promoted here at our school!

Gracie Barra Ventura was at the No-Gi World Championships held in Carson, California August 9th and 10th. Two of our students Justin Tevis and Jesse Newell did great in the blue belt divisions. Jesse was disqualified due to a small infraction of the rules that he was unaware of but was doing great until that point. Justin won his first match against a tough competitor and lost his second match on points. Professor Fabio Leopoldo did great, taking home the bronze medal! He beat his first opponent by guillotine choke but was unable to get past his second opponent, losing by only 2 points in the end. We’re very proud of Prof. Fabio’s bronze medal! We’re also very proud of Jesse and Justin’s efforts! Everyone did great!

Prof. Erik Klinger's first day

I’m so glad to finally have arrived here at Gracie Barra Ventura. The academy and students are really amazing. I taught my first class last week and I really had a great time. Everyone gave me a warm welcome and it was really nice to see that the students are training hard and are extremely eager to learn. Finally I’m back with my instructor, Professor Fabio Leopoldo after training with him for many years in Brazil. I look forward to many great years here in Ventura training and teaching with everyone here!

This past Friday night, we had our Grand Opening.  There were so many people here to join in our celebration, and it was GREAT!!!  We had people from Los Angeles and Orange County come to take part, and we were joined by Master Carlos Gracie Jr.  Master shared stories about how Gracie Barra came to be and how Professor Fabio has grown.  A special thanks goes out to all of you who came.  Here are some photos from the event:
